Frequently Asked Questions

Q: What are the benefits of becoming a volunteer at Supanova?
A: Many! These benefits include:
  • Free souvenir t-shirt commemorating the event (conveniently doubles as a uniform!)
  • Free Madman lanyard and ID badge
  • Free event entry (yours to enjoy during your ample break time ;))
  • Free Lunch on all days of the event (and free dinner as well if you give us a hand on Friday afternoon/evening)
  • Becoming a part of a wonderful community of geeky, fun loving individuals just like yourself!
Q: What sort of duties will I be assigned?
A: That depends on how you fill out the form. If you fill out the form in detail by listing your interests and prior experience in detail, it makes it far easier for us to assign you a job that suits you.
Q: I'm turning 16 within days of the event, can I still volunteer?
A: Unfortunately not. The reason why we cannot accept volunteers under the age of 16 is a legal one, and not a personal one. The law requires that children under the age of 16 be under constant supervision, which is something we cannot guarantee. Sorry :(

However, if you would like to apply next year, we would love to have you.
Q: I'm going with some friends, can you put us on the same shift so we can have our breaks together?
A: It isn't always possible as different tasks have slightly different timetables, but we can certainly try! Make sure you mention who you would like your breaks with in the 'other comments' section in the application form.
Q: I'm female and I need a shirt bigger than size 16, what do I do?
A: Please state which men's size you would like in the 'additional comments' section of the form.
Q: Where can I select what events I wish to participate in?
A: We are keeping this process separate from the main form so you can make an informed decision based on all available options. You will be notified via email when the form to select your preferences becomes available.

What is expected of a volunteer

  • Be courteous at all times. This applies the entire time you are within the convention grounds, and outside as well if you are wearing your uniform and/or your ID badge. When you are wearing your shirt and ID badge, you are representing our event, please do us proud.
  • You are expected to be on time to all your shifts. This is essential in ensuring the event runs smoothly; it can cause many problems if volunteers aren't at their post on time, as each job is equally important as the next. Showing up late not only inconveniences the Volunteer coordinator, it also inconveniences your fellow volunteers.
  • Do not leave the post you are assigned while you are on shift. You must notify the Volunteer Coordinator by phone immediately if there is a urgent situation that requires attention (ie: a patron collapses), you will be instructed from there. Disciplinary action will be taken if you are consistently not at your post.
  • Please ensure you are neatly presented at all times. You are representing our event, it is important that you give us a good image.
  • Wear you shirt and ID badge while on shift. It is important patrons and staff be able to identify you.
  • Most of all, have fun!
